Royal Tartan Fit For A Prince

Every groom can enjoy a Royal wedding next year – thanks to a new tartan celebrating the engagement of Prince William to Kate Middleton.

One of Scotland’s leading Highland outfitters, McCalls Highlandwear, has created Royal Pride, a stunning contemporary plaid incorporating the beautiful royal blue of the dress worn by his future bride the day they announced they were to wed.

The deep blue also reflects the sapphire in Kate’s engagement ring – the heirloom that belonged to the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

McCalls managing director, Iain Hawthorne, says: “We thought it was a fitting way to mark such a special occasion. Although we’d love Prince William to sport the tartan, he will no doubt be wearing a ceremonial uniform for the service.

“However, we know that each year thousands of grooms opt for a kilt when they walk down the aisle and with this latest design they can make it a right royal occasion.”

The tartan, the most recent addition to McCalls’ Pride range of tartans, is a stylish blend of black, charcoal, silver and Royal blue.

It will now go into production with cloth available in plenty time for April 29 for all other gallant young men who want to make their princess their bride on Royal wedding day.

A Royal Pride kilt will cost around £395 to buy and will be also available to hire at around £75 for the full outfit. Each McCalls store will make a donation to a local charity from every sale or hire.

Royal Pride will be the 12th design in McCalls’ exclusive and popular Pride range. McCalls, established in 1887, has stores in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Broughty Ferry, Aberdeen, Elgin and Tillicoultry, where its kilt-making factory is based. Royal Pride is expected to be available in the New Year. McCalls will make a donation from each sale or hire to a local charity.

Earlier this month, Pamela Stephenson’s dance partner set the heather on fire when he strutted his stuff in Strathdon in a McCalls’ Pride kilt. But it was all Strictly Plaidtonic for the couple who nipped up north for a few days’ practice away from the lights of the London studios.

The Strictly Come Dancing stars went through their paces at the home Pamela shares with husband Billy Connolly at Candacraig. James Jordan – married to fellow Strictly dancer Ola - was kitted out by McCalls in a Platinum Pride kilt with matching charcoal tweed jacket.
