Highlandwear specialist McCalls invests £250,000 upgrading five stores

McCalls, Scotland’s leading Highland outfitters and kilt hire specialist, has invested more than £250,000 upgrading five of its eight stores and its kilt-making factory.

The company’s five-floor HQ in Aberdeen and McCalls Jewellers, also on Bridge Street, have been extensively refurbished and refitted. McCalls’ Elgin branch has been upgraded as has its stores at Broughty Ferry and Falkirk.

The final part of the group-wide project will see new equipment installed at its Tillcoultry kilt-making factory, McCalls of Daiglen, which also has a retail outlet. The Edinburgh and Glasgow stores were refurbished in 2008.

McCalls Managing Director Iain Hawthorne said the investment was vital to continue to deliver a high level of service to customers.

He said: “As well as enjoyable retail experience, we must also ensure customers receive quality service and a product that is value for money. We felt the time was right to further enhance our stores and we are delighted with the outcome.”

Mr Hawthorne attributes the company’s success to its staff, customer service and the quality of its products, such as its handmade kilts including Pride - its own range of modern tartans.

More than 1,200 people hire a kilt from McCalls’ outlets each month and Mr Hawthorne says that number is continuing to increase.
