McCalls kilt is Taylor-made for US rock star Corey

Heavy metal star Corey Taylor went from rent-to-buy when he decided to wear a kilt for a gig at Glasgow’s SECC.

The lead singer of the US band Stone Sour arranged a hire from the Glasgow branch of McCalls Highlandwear in Ingram Street ahead of the Tuesday night concert. (Oct 26, 2010)

But when he turned up with his entourage for the fitting, he liked the Black Isle outfit so much he decided to buy it there and then.

Branch manager David Johnston says: “He was a really nice guy who was a delight to deal with. He enjoyed a browse around the shop during the half hour or so he was with us.

He’d said in advance he wanted a dark kilt and obviously loved the outfit that we’d identified for him.”

Corey made his name as the lead singer of mask-wearing heavy metal band Slipknot.

McCalls Highlandwear was established in Aberdeen in 1887. As well as the Glasgow branch, the company has stores in Edinburgh, Falkirk, Broughty Ferry, Aberdeen, Elgin and Tillicoultry, where its kilt-making operation is also based. McCalls has developed its own Pride range of 11 unique tartans.
